Why clients love Tsavo West
Greener and more dramatic than its eastern neighbour. Tsavo West has volcanic craters, black lava flows, the crystal-clear Mzima Springs — where you can watch hippos and fish from an underwater viewing chamber — and the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, one of Kenya's most important black rhino conservation areas.
Things to do here
- Mzima Springs underwater hippo & fish viewing
- Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary — black rhino conservation
- Shetani lava flows and Chaimu Crater
- Views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear mornings
Common questions
What's the difference between Tsavo East and West?
East is flat, open and best for elephants and big herds. West is hillier and greener, with springs, lava and rhino. We suggest doing both on a 3-day safari to see two different worlds.
Can I swim at Mzima Springs?
Swimming isn't allowed — there are hippos and crocodiles. You walk the shaded trails and watch them from the underwater viewing chamber instead.
